member. This is not necessarily a bad thing as I certainly would not
want this forum (nor my mailbox) filled up with the sort of inane chit-
chat that passes for conversation in other places.
As Jay's reply indicates, I think that most of us who stick around
prefer to play LT rather than talk about it. I don't have enough time
to play/create/fix LT as I would like so I certainly don't have the
time (nor inclination) to get involved in discussions every day.
However, I think there is still room for more interaction than occurs
currently.
I'm sure we've all noticed the decline in the number of levels being
submitted. Let's be honest, what would happen if the top ten players
all decided to leave? Donald would have less work to do, other players
would move further up the GHS lists, minimal solutions would take
longer to be found (permitting more month-to-month GHS gazumping), and
unauthorised shortcuts would lie undiscovered for longer. Only the
last of these could be seen as a negative.
However, I think we can all imagine what it would be like if the top
ten level-makers stopped submitting. If it wasn't for the regular
contributions of Ed and Donald, the welcome return of Foudlaser, Iron,
and Yono, recent contributions from the likes of GE Meyerfeld and
GerrW, and occasional new authors such as CAC and Charles Reinke, we'd
all be a bit sadder. Sure, we could trawl through the thousands of
older levels we currently don't have time to do (as many non-GHS list
players seem to), but an important aspect of the game, for those of us
who like to be at the pointy end, would be missing.
I don't know what others would really want to talk about ("everything"
seems a little too broad for a specific forum such as this, but
restricting it to LT only would be, um... restrictive and probably
only serve to maintain the status quo). Here are my thoughts.
I would like to see more feedback, especially as a way of encouraging
people to make more levels. If you like a particular level or author -
tell the group. I think this applies more to new authors (and perhaps
those returning after a long absence) as people like myself will
probably keep making levels when we have the time, even without the
occasional pat on the back.
Obviously, people will come and go - we seem to attract quite a few
students but then lose them when their studies are over (eg. Li Yifeng
and NGG) but I always wonder about the authors who send in one lot of
levels and are then never heard of again. Would they have sent in some
more if we had been more welcoming and simply said "Hey, thanks for
the levels"?
Ok, this is longer than I had intended so I'll wrap it up now.
Gotta get back to chasing those GHS anyway...
