There is a trade-off between pure speed and ease of use/energy
expended. If there are only around half a dozen pieces or less of
brick to shoot (or an object needs to be moved that many spaces) I
find it is more efficient to just hold the spacebar down and shoot
the (say) five bricks then click the square I want to move to with
the mouse for a total of two clicks instead of ten with the more
frenetic space-arrow-space-arrow... method.
It's also easier to navigate around the "double corners" that are in
your example since you don't have to move (as an example) ...RRURU...
to get around the bottom-right corner.
Of course the mouse can also be very handy when moving through more
open areas, particularly if there are objects preventing you from
moving in simple straight lines. The tank will automatically drive
the shortest GROUND path but, as mouse-users will know, there are 2
potential problems with that:
1. The auto-tank-driver is not very aware and will quite happily
drive in front of an AT if that is the shortest path.
2. He only drives on ground and will ignore possibly shorter paths
using movers, ice, and tunnels unless you set them as the destination
by clicking the mouse on them.
My choice of method is also influenced by whether I am already
holding the mouse and how tired my fingers are from using a computer
during the day.
