I am also sorry you are having computer problems. As the others
mentioned, LT can wait. The important thing is for you to get to
anything else you might have had on the hard disk. The others have
given good advice. As mentioned, I also hope you have the MS Windows
disks or a MS-DOS disk so that you can investigate things further.
Just do not do anything that would cause a format.
I do not know your specific symptoms or your specific computer setup,
but there is also another possibility that has not been mentioned yet.
You might need to set things in the BIOS. Some information, such as
the type of hard disk, is saved by the BIOS in CMOS. If the CMOS
becomes corrupted, then the BIOS does not know what type of hard disk
is there and will not read it. So, sometimes you can set everything in
the BIOS and it starts working again. Of course, knowing what to set
can be difficult. Again, be careful not to do anything that would
cause a format.
Sometimes setting everything in the BIOS will work until the power to
the computer is turned off. If this is the case, it is because of a
battery. Some computers, especially very old computers, have a battery
inside. CMOS needs power to remember its settings. If the battery goes
dead or becomes bad, the CMOS will not remember its settings once the
computer is turned off. If this happens, you can keep setting
everything in the BIOS every time you turn on your computer.
I would suspect the possibilities that others mentioned before this,
but thought I would mention it anyway.
Good luck with getting to your other information. I hope it goes well
for you.
