Since you wanted me to distribute your
level "Surreptitious Entry", I attached
it here. To decode the text, you should
use Text-Converter.exe 1.03 or 1.04 which
you can download from
http://pages.globetrotter.net/lasertank/LT_Utility/start3.htm ,
click on "Applications" on that page.
Did I have fun playing it? I'm more a
level creator than a level solver. No, I
didn't use any gimmick or trick, so I
don't need to send the lpb to you. I'm
sure that no GHS hunter would get worse
score than mine (190/66).
Geo: "Is it possible for a level to be
hard if it does not require backwards
movement on a tankmover, and does not use
any ice or tunnels in the making of the
level?"
Yes, it is. One of Ihab's criteria
regarding good deadly level is the
simplicity of the elements. One of his
favorite level is LaserTank.LVL #40 "Down
the Drain" by anonymous. You are given a
tank, 12 movable blocks, and 1 flag. It's
so simple, but Ihab labeled it as "the
difficult of the difficult". Try. If you
can't solve it, you can't blame on the
gimmicks or tricks.
Geo: "How in the world is a child going
to know: 1. That this glitch exists,
2. That it is even possible to go
backwards on a tankmover?"
I learned all the tricks from the "Kids"
levels. (Now there is Tutor.LVL file, so
new players can learn many tricks
instantly. More than a year ago there was
no such level, so I thought, every new
player should play "Kids" levels.)
In some "Kids" levels, the player is
offered no choice but one possible move/
shot. For example, the tank could only
jump onto a tank mover while an anti-tank
was waiting at the other end, watching
the flag. The move looked strange to me,
but I was forced to do it. The laser beam
passed thru, and the tank reached the
flag. At the other occasion, the tank
couldn't move. It could only shoot to a
mirror. I did it, and suddenly my tank
was on top of something. Once, the author
arranged the mirrors and made them ready
for us to use. I was guided by the
author's plan to make the tank moved
backward on the tank mover.
I also learned the tricks from Special-I
levels.
In the Medium/Hard/Deadly levels, the
authors never give us tricks for free.
We must pay them with sweats and hairs.
Now about chess.
Don't you realize that chess has been
changed from time to time? A long time
ago the Queen was not so powerful, it
could only move one square diagonally.
There was no castling, there was no pawn
promotion, etc. The evolution didn't
stop there. Computer and Internet are
affecting the chess game.
So, enjoy LT as it is. And it's still
evolving.
Bye,
Suyono
PS: The level authors (Kheper, Steve,
Donald, Ihab, etc.) didn't hide their
tricks. They revealed them in the Tutor
level file, so they didn't feel like king
of the mensa society since no one could
solve their puzzles.
