better than the currently available alternatives, which have far fewer features,
and have every bit as many problems...
I have been operating e-lists for years, and YahooGroups, even in it's present
somewhat broken incarnation, still operates better than it's "competition".
Unfortunately, there are very few options for e-mail lists at this time,
and the "competition" simply does not have the features of Yahoo! Groups.
You would have to use 2 or 3 different services to get the features found here,
and then your "forum" would be spread all over the internet, and not at all
convienent.
UseNet is certainly not a option, unless you really like loads of *spam*,
and dropped/broken posts, which I do not.
Don't get me wrong here, I am not a big fan of Yahoo! at all, but the facts are
indeedd as I have outlined above.
"SmartGroups" - too many bugs to be usable, and chronic problems with attachments/files
"Topica" - no files storage at all, no attachment storage in the list's archives, and they have
every bit as much e-mail delivery problems as Yahoo!Groups.
Those are the two major competetors.... There are other listservers out there,
but they *all* have major drawbacks.
