numerous times before. There are two things I would like to point out:
1. Compatability. The new LaserTank could not understand the levels
in their old format. Level files have no information to indicate
version. Of course, you could always write a "change utility" to
change a file to the new version.
2. Space. Let's say you add 1 more layer to LaserTank. Then the
LaserTank.lvl file has 256*2030 = 519,600 bytes of rather useless
space. And if you want 3 layers, that's another 519,600 bytes. Now
we've almost reached a megabyte. Just about 18K left to go and we're
there! And if you want more layers, each level takes more space.....
And don't forgot the over 1000 levels in temp.lvl. If the level count
grows exponentially as it had been doing, we'll have plenty.

Floors in a building, (like in zelda, layer 1 would be Basement 2,
layer 2 would be Basement 1, layer 3 would be Floor 1, et cetra).

simply add layers, once your done with the first floor, you can add a
stairway or tunnel that leads up to the second floor! Lets just say
that the next version of lasertank DID have layers, you could even
play your old levels on it! The old levels only have one layer, so no
problems there eh? Now, i don't think ive been in this group long
enough to know if this idea has popped up before or not, but
personally, layers would be pretty cool. It would also make levels
more complex and more difficult!
