knowing you posted this! Here's the text of the e-mail. The attached
file is just a file which shows how the contestfiles should be placed
Text of the e-mail:
Hi Donald,
I got an idea for a LaserTank Contest and I'd like to hear your
opinion about the idea. I think I'll also post a message on the Yahoo
Board but I'm first telling you about the idea, to see if you like
it. The idea is to have contests where people can submitt levels with
the specifications of the contest. There would be a page where the
information is kept about who won contest and how many times he/she
entered a contest. Here's an example of what a contest could be like:
Deadline: There would be a date when the contest ends, the
levelcreators have to sent the levels before that date
Voting: Everyone who enters the contest can also vote for the best
level of the contest
Specifications: The levels would have a limit of the used objects or
something like that. Examples for a contest could be:
- At least 1/3 of the gamefield has to be filled with a certain
object, like ice or water
- There's a limit of 15 for each object (so 15 blocks, 15 solid
blocks, etc..) - the limit isn't for the ground, of course
- Same as above (15 limit) but you're not allowed to use mirrors
- Etc..
The person who manages the contest, would receive all the levels,
check if they fit in the limits of the contest and at the deadline,
he/she would send them to the creators who entered the contest. They
would vote for the best level and send their vote to the manager of
the contest. He/She would count the results and send the result to
you, Donald, who updates the page with the number of wins and times
of entering the contest. It's just like with the pages of who solved
the levels with the GHS, only this one would be for the contests. The
page would look something like this (after one contest):
Levelcreator Number of Wins Times entered a contest
------------ -------------- -----------------------
Levelcreator A 1 1
Levelcreator B 0 1
Levelcreator C 0 1
Of course, the levelfile could be uploaded after the contest ends, so
everyone can enjoy the contestlevels. I've attached an example .lvl
file, because you don't have to create a new file for each contest,
they could be placed in one file. See the attached file and don't
forget to read the hints from the levels from the 'Contest Manager'.
Let me know what you think or if you have anything to ask,
Simeon
