I know I'm a bit late in the discussion, but I'd like to give my opinion anyway.
I think that you should learn (and use) the tricks. In a previous mail, you said that it would lead potential new players to frustration, but that is not true, because there is a Tutor.lvl file where you can learn all tricks (and you are heavily encouraged to download it in the web site). And as far as I know of, there is no level in any level file that contains any trick "undocumented" in the tutor file. And also, now there are quite a lot of levels that use the "gimmicks", and I don't think that you should stay away from these levels just because they use them.
In my opinion, the tricks are a part of LaserTank, and just add up to the fun. :)
